 Atlas of Old Damascus Launched Sunday

 

Atlas of the Old city of Damascus and 'Damascus Features' film are launched at the Regional Center for Sustainable Development in Prince Abdul Qader al-Jazaeri Palace, within the framework of the integrated plan to maintain the heritage and development in the old city of Damascus, in presence of Vice President Najah al-Attar.
The Atlas is the first document covering all aspects of the daily life, construction and development in the city. It includes a wide data base in the construction field and an integrated study in documenting the old city of Damascus and its construction.
It includes four sections on the historical development of Damascus city and the existing historical buildings.
'Damascus Features' film reviewed the historical stages Damascus had witnessed and how it maintains its historical identity and constructional and cultural textures.
Minister of Local Administration Tamer al-Hajjeh said that the Ministry, in cooperation with Municipal Administration Modernization (MAM) Program, works for preserving the old city of Damascus, protecting it and setting up the tourist tracks to display the historical wealth of the city.
The Atlas was issued in cooperation with the EU Commission in Damascus, Municipal Administration Modernization (MAM) Program.
Municipal Administration Modernization (MAM) in Syria was started as a modernization Program of Municipal Administration to be carried out in 2006. It aims at improving the quality and effectiveness of local governance.
It seeks to offering technical support on the municipal administration level for seven Syrian Municipalities: Damascus (and rural Damascus), Aleppo, Lattakia, Homs, Tartous, Deir ez-Zour and Palmyra with Euros 20,5 million as a budget.
'Damascus Features' film will be screened in the framework of the integrated plan for maintaining and developing the old city of Damascus, which includes a plan for tourist development and marketing on the old city. . SANA
