Lattakia Directorate of
Culture in cooperation with
the French Cultural Center
in Damascus held a concert
dubbed "From the West to the
Sufi East … From Damascus to
Lyon".
During the concert, Bab
Assalam (Gate of Peace)
Group played on Tuesday
various compositions and
lyrics influenced by
meditative Sufi thoughts
mixing the oriental maqams
with western harmony.
Lute player Khaled al-Jaramani
and percussion player
Mohaned al-Jaramani
accompanied by the clarinet
player Rapheal Vuillard
played several musical
pieces titled Sadaka
(friendship), Asefa
(storm) and Nafura
(fountain).
The concert is held in
the framework of a tour
around the Arab region in
coordination with the French
cultural centers in
Syria,
Jordan and Saudi Arabia, al-Jaramani
said in an interview with
SANA.
For his part, the French
musician Vuillard expressed
happiness over participating
in this event, asserting the
richness and originality of
the Arab musical heritage.
The tour started from
Damascus heading for Sweida
in the south then Lattakia
and will continue to Aleppo,
Oman and Riyadh, ending in
Jeddah.
Bab Assalam Group was
established five years ago.
It held the first concert in
the northern Syrian Aleppo
Province in 2005. The group
participated in several Arab
and international musical
events. SANA
