The first Damascus International Equestrian Show Jumping
Tournament kicked off on Tuesday, which is one of the Arab
League for Equestrian sports rounds that qualify winners to
participate in the FEI (International Federation for
Equestrian Sports) World Cup 2010.
The event was held at the Olympic Stadium at Basel al-Assad
Club for Shooting and Equestrian Sports, withy participants
from five Arab countries: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the
United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Syria.
Egyptian rider Ahamd Tulba came in first in the beginning
round of Class A, with Saudi rider Abdullah bin Mutib in
second place and Egyptian Karim Habshi in third place.
In Class B, Saudi Abdullah bin Mutib came in first, followed
by Saudi Abdullah al-Sharbatli in second place and Jordanian
Hani Bsharat in third place.
Following the matches, Honorary President of the Syrian
Equestrian Federation Manal al-Assad honored the people
responsible for rehabilitating the Olympic Stadium and
members of the technical office of the Basel al-Assad Club
and its staff.
52 riders participated in the Class B events and 24 riders
in Class A events of the first day.
