Damascus, (SANA)
– Minister of Tourism Saadalla Agha al-Qlaa called on people
involved in the tourism sector to launch personal and group
initiatives to make Damascus a tourism destination.
He also called for giving priority to the National Program
for Tourism Quality for 2010, which was recently implemented
in order to improve and develop tourist services.
During a meeting held on Monday at the Damascus Department
of Tourism, Agha al-Qalaa stressed the need for studying
markets, rehabilitating existing tourist products, and
establishing integrated tourist products in Damascus and
Damascus countryside.
The minister pointed out to the importance of focusing on
Damascus, since most tourist activities are focused in it,
with working tourist facilities in it making up 30% of
tourist facilities in Syria. Facilities under construction
in Damascus also make up around 15% of projects in Syria.
The National Program for Tourism Quality aims to
rehabilitate all tourism facilities and sites, provide the
necessary technical and services qualifications, and apply
quality standards in accordance with the ministry's
decisions and regulations.
The 10th five-year plan focused on the necessity of
developing tourist promotion and marketing and following
professional promotional plans and methods that relay the
true image of Syria and its history, civilization, heritage
and historic sites.
