– The interest in animal resources and developing them has
become a growing need in light of the unprecedented rise in
the prices of meat, calling for taking action to develop
this sector and handle the difficulties facing it, since
animal resources and animal products are an important
economic resource that is vital for local industries.
The goals set in the agricultural production plan project
for 2009-2010 include producing 1515900 tons of cow milk,
62000 tons of beef, 750700 tons of sheep milk, 184600 tons
of mutton, and 23000 tons of wool, in addition to 105900
tons of goat milk, 8700 tons of goat meat, 1500 tons of goat
hair, 3800 tons of ox milk, and 500 tons of ox meat.
Regarding fowl, the plan aims at producing 3962 million eggs
and 119932 million chickens, 189259000 tons of other fowl
meat.
Other goals include producing 16800 tons of fish, 2676 tons
of honey, and 118400 tons of beeswax.

Ahmad al-Sheikh said the establishment will increase
subsidies for livestock raisers to become more than SP 25
billion per year, in addition to increasing animal feed
rations.
The agricultural plan project aims at achieving
self-sufficiency regarding agricultural and animal products
as much as possible, in addition to exporting excess
products, improving the livelihood of producers, developing
resources and ensuring their sustainability, and providing
the resources needed for the industrial sector.
The plan implemented various initiatives and reformative
projects for developing the management of water resources
and land, restructuring the Ministry of Agriculture,
improving farming techniques, bolstering the national
strategy for food security, devising a plan for marketing
agricultural and animal products, increasing the added value
of agricultural products, preparing a suitable strategy for
agricultural loans and insurance, updating relevant
legislations, and encouraging the agricultural guidance
program.
