State Planning Commission (SPC) in Syria announces talks being held with China to carry out the project of Halabeya and Zalabeya dam " water-electro dam" in east area after several years of suspension.

The estimated cost of the project reaches one billion dollar, while that of Tigrus project reaches $2 billion to be raised under new study.

The SPC head, Tayser al-Raddawi told Tishreen newspaper that the "water-electro" dam saves water and ensures electricity of the power 1000 megawatt as well as irrigates 27.000 hectors in the surrounding area.

Moreover, he said that Arab funds are ready to finance Khabour and Tigrus projects, noting that Kuwait's Fund offered $ one million as a grant to prepare technical studies of the projects as soon as possible.

" the Arab socio-economic development fund also offered a grant to ratify the study and to improve the process of drawing Euphrates water to Palmyra and Hasyaa city I order to provide all villages with water", al-Raddawi said.

He added that the project also aims to ensure water for washing phosphate and producing phosphatic fertilizer. In addition, it would provide industrial city with water.

"If we do not carry out big irrigation projects, we can not treat development in the eastern area", al-Raddawi concluded.
